I have created the beginnings of a learning agreement piece of writing, which is posted below. This will hopefully be enough to show to the tutor at our group tutorials my intended scheme of work heading in Ba8, the last project.
My tutor suggested that as i move into a development of my work from the previous project, I should find another source of visual inspiration in order to push my work forward, inspire me further in what I enjoy. She suggested that I look in the interiors of national trust properties, however after doing a little research I have found that all of the properties close over the Christmas period until Easter for deep cleaning. So, this is not really an option because I wanted to complete more drawing from primary sources as I feel it is more rewarding.
So far I have...
Self Planning…
This course of work, intended for the Ba8 hand in, is based upon a progression of ideas following on from Ba7. Although there were major flaws in planning and preparation in Ba7 which ultimately lead to it not being so successful, the technique worked for me and it is something I would definitely like to develop further. In this course of work better planning will lead to a more thorough and rigorous exploration of technique and possible uses for it in the interior market.
However, as this is the last project of the textile course, I believe we need to produce a really special body of work. I want to put everything I have learnt over the last two and half years together to create a collection of work I am proud of. As i hope to use my more concise planning skills, I see my work consisting of lots of different ideas and routes which are their own individual ideas, but all link together and inform each other.
From a reflection of Ba7,I think to move my work forwards, I need to gather an extra source of primary research to help inform and bring another element to the work. This will work alongside a further experimentation in knotting technique and material usage and a toning down of ideas towards the creation of more commercial designs. The aim is that I will look into Victorian architecture, using Victorian seasides as a starting point, in order to influence colour usage and the introduction of pattern.
So, there will be three parts to the project…
- A continued experimentation of knotted technique. This will include smaller samples based on a range of knotted techniques, experimenting with materials. Unlike in Ba7, this will be a smaller part of the project, displayed in a display wallet, more as a technical file as ideas to use in the other two sections. This will include a smaller experimentation into the more structural side, briefly explored towards the end of Ba7.
- This part of the project will include a more toning down version of the knotted techniques, developing ideas aimed at the commercial interiors market. this will include an exploration into the interiors market and trends. The idea behind the work will less focused on the structural aspects and more combining knotting to create more decorative pieces and combining with stitch and fabric manipulation to create more textile based fabric designs, still sticking with a textured effect, and the high end bespoke market, just more furnishing fabrics.
- An exploration of Victorian architecture will make up the final part of the project. This will make up the main drawing section to the project, building designs based upon planned drawing inspiration trips to Sheringham, Cromer, Norwich and various exhibitions around London. The colour usage and pattern exploration within this part of the project will inform the other two sections of the project.
I need to these ideas further an perhaps explain each of my ideas in more detail. I will make a decision on how to improve this further following my group tutorial tomorrow, but I do need to add plans of how to present my work and an idea of timetabling.
