Day of work placement/primary research at Primary school.

Today, as usual I took a day out of uni work to help out in a local primary school. I really enjoy doing this as it gives me an opportunity to have a go at doing what I want to do, what I really enjoy!

I have been thinking a lot about the course of this project and have today finished writing the whole learning agreement document which is a sort of plan for my project. One of the main bonuses of focusing on teaching art and textiles in schools and using art and textiles to teach other areas of the curriculum, is that my time spent at the school will no longer be time off uni. Instead it will be time well spent gaining practical knowledge, hands on experience of how lessons are taught and delivered.  This will help with the planning as it will give an opportunity to see what is achievable at different levels and also in the time periods.

I sat down with two of the teachers today and discussed what I aim to focus on in my last project of uni and they said it was a really good idea. Now, unlike in other projects, everyone that I have spoken to has been really positive towards the idea and I feel a lot more confident about the way this project will turn out! In speaking to the teachers, I thought they would be able to give me a valuable insight into planning lessons and delivering them. They said that when I feel confident enough in my planning that they would let me run my own taught sessions/workshops with the whole class!! This is an opportunity I definitely can't miss, I need to do this project!!!!!!!!!

For the next couple of weeks, in school, they are focusing on mini project. based around art and artists. This is just what I was looking for, so I am hoping to go in another day just to get more experience into the way art is taught at a year 2 level.

Today the activities were planned based the art of Mondrian. The children created their own artwork, in response to these artist, both individually and in pairs.
Based on the work that they had done in the classroom, I aim to create some lesson plans based on these artists.
