Instead of completing physical uni work over the last couple of days, I have been completing lots of different research. Over the last couple of days, I have been in London research in order to pass on knowledge through textiles. In my tutorial on Monday, we discussed the idea of physically teaching through textiles, and technique and this is the reason I went to London.
I spent some time researching in both the Natural History and Science Museums, looking for things I were sure related to topic areas studied in schools. I also spent some time looking around the high end shops looking at designers and craft sold in stores, aimed at children, to gather ideas for lesson planning.
Whilst at the History Museum...
- Birds & Techniques.
- Fossils.
- Dinosaurs.
- Rocks.
- Australian Marsupials.
- Volcanoes.
I also learnt about the developmental stages of drawing from scribbles onto paper to 3D representation and perspective.
In the Science Museum...
- Bio-fuel.
- Turning coffee into fuel.
All of this research has given me a large base of knowledge and research areas which I can bring into my lesson planning. This is very good, creating learning plans in my head, but I needed some craft based research in order to make my ideas more fun, more textile based. In order to gather this, I went looking around some of the shops in London, Libertys and Harrods to see what textile based activities are aimed at children.
There was a wealth of craft packs aimed at children around techniques which include...
Felting, knitting, marbling, up-cycling, bunting, cross stitch and much more!!
Further research;
RoRy DobneR, Sophie Conran, Jimbobart.
