The Bradford textile society was established in 1893 and is the oldest textile society in Britain. The society still continues to thrive and its monthly programme of events provide an opportunity for everyone with an interest in textiles.

The society had a rather rich history which is overlooked by historians. It has had a large contribution to the city's business life and wool industry. Its success and continual success is down to its ability to adapt. By 1920, the Bradford textile society was the most influential organisation of its kind in the world, being transformed into small groups of enthusiasts providing support for students. It has opened its doors to young designers and technicians of the future, offering them a glimpse of the richness and complexity of their profession.

Every year the society sets a range of competitions across the range of textile techniques for students studying design subjects at degree level.
