Market Research - Ashley Thomas

I decided to do some market research on what is already in the interior design market sector, focusing on the retailer Debenhams, I hope to do this as well with more retailers. As we move into the spring/summer season, there is an abundance of bright and colourful floral repeat patterns. I decided to focus on the retailer Debenhams, because they are known for their collections of designers work. I hoped from this, I would be able to get a few names of designers to possibly do more research on.
Ashley Thomas

One of the designers I came across is Ashley Thomas, an interior designer creating a range of home accessories. For Debenhams, she has created ranges of home accessories with a handmade, floral theme at the centre of their design motif. These designs are based on the country style florals, large detailed roses with a variety of colours.

'My name is Ashley Thomas and I'm a designer based on the edge of
the Peak District in England. I aim to produce designs that are fun, conversational and make people smile.

I launched my own brand of home accessories working from a design studio in my spare room in 2008. My products are available in interior boutiques, gift shops and galleries across the UK, Paris and Tokyo. I make a range of handmade cushions, quirky tea towels, unique cards and limited edition art-prints, all made in England.

I specialise in digital design, although traditionally trained in screen-printing as it gives me much more freedom. I am not limited to the amount of colours I can use in my work and it makes my products much more affordable.

I was always drawing as a child whether it was my pets, flowers or landscapes. I was always surrounded by animals and this is probably why I obsessively draw them. My inspiration can come from the smallest detail, such as the pattern on a vintage plate or watching the busy garden birds from my studio in the attic.'
